that is a problem. Someone can just get the carbon copy out of the bin.
Shops are also only as safe as their staff. If a dishonest one leaves or gets caught it's OK again. Things can change in a week.
My card was used in Las Vegas and it took me 6 months, dozens of phone calls and signing stat decs etc to get it back. I'm only using my credit card for emergencies now. I don't want to go through that again.
But this can happen at home too. I had a $1200 bill from a last minute discount accom website (can't think of the name). I rang them and it was my surname and card but not my first name. They wouldn't do anything about it. Westpac sorted it out though.
