to departure, which allows me to stay for 60 days with out a sponsor, ie: sponsor letter from and Indonesian willing to sponsor...there are companies that do it for a fee....anyway I was also able to extend my visa, going to the Indonesian consulate with a sponsor and sponsor letter....pay 250,000, you need to do this about one week before your visa expires...the second extension was as long as they were willing to go....and required photos, fee, new letter, note from hotel...it was a bit of a hassel...but it worked.
If you want to be able to extend your visa, I believe up to six months, still going to the consulate monthly, you will need the sponsor letter, then your visa will have your sponsors name printed on it....you still pay, etc...but you know it is going to be approved. (I wasn't sure with my 60 day visa, I just had to wait and see..)
The company I spoke to about extending my visa and them doing the work would have cost me about 700,000 rp, but they guaranteed it could be done....but 450,000 or that is for the agent and not for the renewing of the visa...anyway, you do have options as long as you DON'T go in with only a visa on arrival...then it's not possible to extend it...anyway, that's my understanding....I never use that type of visa personally, as I know I am not leaving in 30 days or less..
Good luck and Happy Holidays
