Yes I agree on holiday why bother with a phone, well some of us have very good reasons to take them. We always take an old phone with us and put in a Bali sim card and we only use it to send sms back to our family in Perth to let them know that we have arrived safe and to give them our room number. We also use it to call out Balinese friends. We usually do not carry it around with us unless we have arranged for someone to call us, but we do check it daily in case there is a sms on it. We do this because although being on holiday I would still like to know if anything is wrong. We went away for a weekend and for the first time ever we both turned our mobiles off. Our daughter knew where we we staying so we felt ok about not having them on. But she was involved in a car accident and had head injuries and she couldn't remember where we were and spent the night in hospital scared and with no family to support her. From that day on we vowed that no matter where we were we would never turn off our phones again.
