I don't agree about a visa only being 29 days even if they count from the day you arrive, which I would have thought is the logical day to start counting

We have been in Bali for the full 30 days and bearing in mind the 11.55 departures it means you leave on the stroke of the 31st day. If however, you use Jetstar which arrives very late into Bali (11.00pm) then I suppose you are almost 1 day short. You cannot howeverexpect the immigrasi to date your entry for the next day.

If you have any concerns about overstaying, I suggest you apply for a 60 day tourist visa here in Australia for AUD$60 and which will avoid the 30 day limit. In addition, when you arrive with your visa already in your passport you do not go through the normal channel but via their Indonesian entry point which is on the R/H side from Immigrasi.
