as i said in my post, i haven't a clue, so have no particular mind-set about it. I am commenting on what i was told, and putting it out there for replies like yours. I don't know of any book which addresses the male-female work dynamics in Bali.
Wether the people who made the comments are basing them on their own values and ethics i wouldn't know.
What really interests me is the pre-determined role men and women can have within societies, which usually includes work roles. There are many cultural groups where the woman definitely works harder, is the main bread-winner, because that's what a particular culture has at some time decided suits them. I don't think the decision always had to do with economics.
