it is valid for 2 months then you go to immigration in Bali and pay a fee to have it extended for a further 1-2months and then again the following time. You do not have to leave the country to do this. You need a sponsor for this type of visa.
You are thinking of the 2 month tourist visa this cannot be extended, so if you want to stay longer you have to leave country usually to Singapore and return next day.
We have found out about the social visa via Indo Consulate Sydney but didnot ask what was required in the sponsorship letter.
