I always thought the check-in luggage limit was 20kgs & 7 kgs in hand luggage. In fact, when I was travelling to Bali a couple of weeks ago with Garuda, I was stopped at Perth check-in saying my luggage was above 20kgs. (After removing my 2 litre red cordial & a 1 litre wine cask however, it came in under limit & I progressed through check-in).
On return, I was hesitant with check-in luggage as it was just over the 20kg limit, as checked on the scales at my hotel. My hand luggage was 7kgs, but my backpack was potentially creating a longterm physical disability!
At check-in at Denpasar, the sign said check-in luggage allowance was 32kgs with Garuda (this was news to me.... I always thought it was 20kgs). My hand luggage was not checked at all, nor was my back-breaking backpack.
I lamented I could have had more luggage than I did. What is the true story? Is it 20kgs out of Perth, but 32kgs out of Denpasar??
It's a mystery to me.
