Casa Padma on JL Padma is a good option if you are not looking to reproduce most of the MBR features. The casa is more contemporary.
Another option - and all you lose is the Beachfront is Rama garden Hotel also on JL Padma almost on corner of Garlic Lane - very small compared to MBR. However good price, loads of balinese character, personal & friendly. Their is Spa entry/exit into Ambienente Spa ( which main entrance fronts Garlice Lane).
