It is very true that type of tourist has changed and that Australians are now only about 10-11% of overseas visitors, so only about 6% of total visitors to Bali. The domestic tourists are not low end but very many are staying at top hotels and expensive villas - indeed many of these are owned by Indonesians. Many of the other overseas visitors do go out every day and spend their time seeing Bali but not in the old haunts of Kuta/Legian. They still spend money and often in large amounts at places where prices are high and so profit margins and commissions are much better than at most places often mentioned on BTF. So good money enters the Bali economy. The only problem now is to get the Asian tourists to stay longer but most have much shorter vacation time from work than Australians.
