Really, taxis are cheap, plentiful, and willing to please.
If you go out for tea somewhere remote, they won't leave the meter running. They'll simply wait for you. Please ask the driver.
If you have an idea of where you are going and returning to, ignore the meter, and arrange a price with the driver BEFORE you get in. Easy. If it is all day, please offer lunch and/or a drink when you stop at places. Its a nice gesture.
