Have gone the middle man route with some carved signs last 2 years and even with highly detailed sketches, measurements and descriptions written out have still been disappointed.
Nearly started a riot last year when I suggested I wouldn't pay for one because it was, 'so wrong!' I was told they had paid for it to be made so I would have to now pay them regardless of the obvious error. Quite a crowd had gathered & I felt seriously pressured & eventually paid for it. I then asked them where they put their rubbish and slowly strolled past the assembled stickybeaks and dumped the useless thing into their bin. Not happy!
I have nothing against involving a middleman if necessary though, especially if they speak good english and are knowledgable about the product and process. A saleman just chasing a quick commish and without any accountability ...aah not so much.
