Your JBR brought back some fond memories for us. Our first visit was in 1985. Even then, Kuta and Legian were still seperate villages. A whole lot more rice fields around back then.
We stayed in Candidasa when it still had a beautiful lagoon and no electricity - it was gorgeous. Tanah lot just had a path down to the beach with only a few little shops selling wood carvings etc.
Still, we are hopelessly addicted to Bali and continue to travel there - mainly because of it's culture and the warmth of wonderful people who thankfully haven't changed over the years.
