But since you bought it up - I don't know what the law is in regards to cockfighting. I suggest Indonesian/Balinese law is not your area of expertise either and you are relaying what someone has told you so why should anyone's opinion be discounted in favour of yours? In most societies the laws reflect the values of the people.
I am not some blood thirsty kill everything that moves person. I do wish to experience this element of their culture - that as visitors we have no right to tell them is not on. I simply view it as livestock doing what they are bred to do - like a cow or a lamb - I have no emotional connection to these animals at all.
I do consider it cruel and I am not sure if I will enjoy watching the animal be killed but it will be a cultural experience. But my attending is not going to change anything.
Yes - I believe in natural selection - we all practise it in an insulated sense. Go see a hen battery where your eggs or chicken come from - then tell me it is not cruel to eat those things.
You fail to realise animal cruelty/torture is of no concern in many parts of the world.
Law in bali - I don't know the law in Bali, nor do I think you do 100% either and law seems a rather flexible thing in Bali.
Cockfighting will happen if I'm there or not. I am not participating just spectating - I feel no responsibility to what is happening. Emotionally - seeing a chicken die is not in the top 356 most tragic things to ever happen - I will not lose any sleep. Sorry if that offends your sensibilities - but I doubt the balinese see it as a fluffy cute chicken - more likely their next meal.
Do you think the meat eaten in Bali is killed in a humane fashion as in Australian abbatoirs?
