Just thought that I would mention, a 17TH birthday in Indonesia is big news. (They celebrate it more than an 18th or 21st for us) If you tell the hotel where you are staying they probably will arrange a cake etc for him, or the same for any resturant you visit on the day.
Im not really sure why 17th B'day for indo's are such a big deal but I think its because they are able to get a KTP (id card) and the right to vote, also movies are 17+ (for example R rated movies hahahahahha) so I guess they are considered adult after this age :)
