All the other messages are spot on, after 26 trips I only take cash, I do take my credit card, I advise my bank where & for how long I will be away, just in case I need to use my credit card, like buying another ticket home in case of emergency.
As soon as you get to the hotel, put passport, tickets and bulk of money in the safe, never had a problem. I take out $A200 at a time, plenty to spend.
Another useful tip is, my sister & I, allow $30 per day for food, cabs etc, put that aside in a communal kitty & just use that to pay for things.
