Its been many years since I last stayed in Sanur(back in the seventies)
Must admit I was a little apprehensive about seeing our ocean view room,at the Bali Hyatt hotel. It was onnly after booking thet the not so good reviews appeared on the internet, advising some of the rooms were damp, and the garden view rooms were small and set a fairway back from the beach.
Thankfully, our room is lovely and large, with a 360degree view straight to the ocean and overlooks the gardens.
We are on the top floor of a three story building(the bouganvillea block)
the bathroom could have been cleaner around the basin and bath plug.
Why is the toilet paper always so hard to reach in Bali?
but PLEASE don't change the mirrors .suddenly I am taller more slender and look ten kilos lighter.
Bali Hyatt is built over 36acres of landscaped gardens(which explains why we have such a loooong, loooong walk from the restaurants and pools)the sleeping areas are at one end and everything else at the other.
A wreath of flowers was placed around our necks on arrival(reminding me of hawaii)
THe drink and cold towel was welcomed after our one and a half hour drive from Candi Dasa
WE decided to go for a stroll,up to the other end of Sanur and the Griya hotel and McDonalds.it ended up being a 3 to 4 km. walk.
Much further than we thought ,but it was well worth the effort.
That end of town is definitley more exciting, with shops and markets everywhere.
The restaurants of Griya and Besakih hotels are set right on the beach
and certainly look the perfect spot for a meal or coffee before or after shopping at the beach markets. Two cappucinos cost 30.ooorp
But if markets are your thing go to Sukawati art market.
A two storey building located Gianyer about 40min. from Ubud andone and a quarter hours from Sanur.
This market is huge.Hundreds of small stalls fillevery centimetre of the building. You will get value for money if you know prices, and are experienced at bargaining,
NOt many tourist here. This is where thr locals come to shop.
THer is also a market building across the street, with stalls and shops up and down each side of the road.Handicrafts, fabrics, clothes, etc and the most beautiful bedspreads can be found.
If you can haggle you will do well at Sukawati markets.
FOund out that a large 4 bedroom concrete house at Candi dasa can cost as much as 2oomillionrp this is on a good size block of land which they lease for 45years .I am told that they never own the land.It always belongs to the government
WE were going to do the dolphin tour until we found out it left at 4 in the morning.CHanged our minds about that one
We did buy a few things.A mans watch imitation gold (better quality than most )for 40,000rp they wanted 120,000rp to start with.
a lovely large tablecloth crochered large enough to be a throwover
asking price was 300,ooo lucky enough to get it for 120,ooorp it is so lovely would like to buy more
McDonalds cheese burger, chips and coke 21,ooorp
Bedspreads are for sale at 350,000rp going to bargain for one tomorrow
would like to get one for around 140,ooorp I don't remember them being as nice as they are this year.
Tomorrow we leave for Legian beach and the Padma hotel.
