Every time we tried to us our FF we had to log on EVERY day near the release date, usually about 12 months. Then from Perth, even on the first day FF issued for a particular date they would only let us go via Singapore or Hong Kong. Not only long trips with long stop overs the fuel and airport taxes up to $300+ each. So FF not "free" trip. Now we don't try to use them for Bali as it is more convenient, and apart from high season, economical to go direct. Good luck and KEEP trying.
