When I booked in January for next January I had to get on the website early in the morning of the days (12 months prior) that I wanted the seats for. In other words I wanted to fly on Jan 12 2008, had to book early morning Jan 12 2007 to get on the flight. Had to book my return flights separately using the same strategy to get the dates I wanted. But I wanted direct flights from Perth, so I was fussy. Book as early as possible, which is 12 months.
