When they start with some outrageous figure, I just laugh and say, "Tidak bule gila" (meaning i'm not a crazy white person), or just say, 'we both know what it's really worth', & then I WILL offer the 20,000. Also I only ever go up in very small increments. Believe me, you'll never rip off an Indonesian shopkeeper. They have to be incredibley clever, hardworking and resourceful, on their worst day, they're better than me on my worst day! That's my 2 cents worth, anyway.
