I'm 81 and my partner's 71. December will be my 20th and my partner's 5th visit to Bali. Maybe that answers your questions. For a solo senior female I think a little discretion is required, as in any other location on the planet, and I would suggest that after-dark expeditions would be better with company - like cultural and musical visits et al arranged through an agency. That's just a suggestion.
As for where to go and where to stay, for a first visit (and depending on the length of stay and the depth of your pocket) I would recommend separate stays of a minimum 4 nights in, say, Seminyak, where there is excellent beach-front accommodation, Kuta, where (sic) all the action happens - and where I definitely recommend Poppies Cottages. Sanur on the other side of the isthmus, and Ubud where there is a huge range of quality accommodation, from economy class to luxury villas. Or you may choose to stay in one location and hire a driver. The possibilities are endless. As other posters have said, email me for any other information - and, get yourself a handful of travel brochures and search the web. You will enjoy Bali.
