You do not give an indication of where in North Bali your sponsor child lives. However a couple of Sponsorship programs are run from Singaraja. As such I would advise staying in Lovina.
Even though you are there primarily to visit your sponsor child, you are still on a holiday and Lovina offers a reasonable range of hotels, restaurants and live music venues.
Due to the downturn in tourism in the area it is very easy to get decent seaside accommodation when you get there. This way you can make your own choice on arrival. (There are a large number of hotels available).
It would be advisable to book your driver for the duration of your stay, this will make your own life very easy and give you the option of doing a bit of sightseeing.
Try to avoid the Nirwan Hotel/cottages, some very bad tales have emerged about this particular group.
