I was rarely stopped when I was on a motorbike - I always wore a scarf over my face to stop the dust, a long sleeved top and gloves to stop back-of-hand burning.
I was stopped on the way to Candi Dasa while driving a car, and even though the policeman was exceedingly agressive, didn't have to pay anything.
Oh, yes, I had complete licences and papers!
