for not planning. Leaving it to random exploration on the ground can be full of pleasant surprises. Because you are a seasoned traveller I would be going with that.

My first few trips were done that way and I'm glad I did it. I had a basic structure with a large amount of flexibility built in and which I certainly made use of with fabulous results.

Overplanning can reduce the wow factor but because I am taking my kids over shortly for their first trip I have decided to structure the trip much more so that I can share with them the experiences that I have found most rewarding.

There are many fantastic restaurants in Ubud with varied pricing. Some of the better ones I have enjoyed are the Cafe Lotus, Nyomans, Casa Luna and Ary's Warung.
