- ceremony a year or two back. It was the ceremony where the baby's feet touch the ground for the first time. After checking with grandfather we took photos of the ceremony and picked out the best which we put into a small album. There was a good one of mother and babe at the moment of that first touch which we had enlarged to A4 size and put in a frame. I've been treated as next to a god by the family since. I have no doubt it was very much appreciated.
Money for the new child is always appreciated as it is seen as a sign of a prosperous life. Put the money in a envelope (red if you can) and decorate it and add the name with a flourish and/or a small sketch of a star or heart or something. The Balinese always respect something you have done yourself. Make sure you put it in the baby's right hand.
