give a small gift for the baby eg rattle etc and then put some rupiah in an envelope, maybe up to $50aud. Ceremonies are very expensive for the Balinese, they some times borrow money to have them.
My husband went to a baby ceremony 5 years ago (I was unwell and couldn't fly) He spent 3 days in the village with our friends and watch all the preparations, making the decorations, even to killing the pig lol. It was an experience he will never forget.
Mind you think he was happy to get back to his hotel after all this ha ha.
I am sure you will enjoy the experience of Bali culture.
