Sure I agree the airport service in Australia is pretty hopeless.

When I do return to Oz every now and again usually with Singapore Airlines, the first problem is, the Brisbane Ground Staff usually take 10 or 15mins to get ready for the plane door to be opened.

NOT ONCE have they opened it straight away... the plane staff usually have to knock on the window on the door of the plane to tell them to hurry up!!

The plane is usually parked at the furtherest gate possible...

The line up for Immigration is miles long.

Nobody smiles :)

Waiting for baggage also takes at least 30mins...

only the sniffer dogs smile at you....

Then the line up for Customs is usually twice as long as Immigration

AGAIN NO SMILES

The parking for your family waiting for you isnt enough.

The chairs in the arrivals hall arent enough either!!!!

Oh yeh not to mention the lifts in the airport which are TINY and there are only TWO !! Bit difficult when you have to put your trolley in as well.

Again the line up for the lifts is usually long as well!!

Then another long wait at the gate to pay for the parking, which gets more expensive every time I go home.... :)

As for SMILING.... I think they just dont bother anymore.

At least here in Jakarta at certain supermarkets and resturants they wear a small badge, which says... Please let me know if Im not smiling..!!

If it looks like the person is grumpy or having a bad day I usually just joke with them about the badge...and that gets a big GRIN :P
