Garuda could not afford the lease payments on two of their Airbus A330's which meant they had to be sent back to the leasors. Melbourne and Sydney should consider themselves very lucky to have retained a service, as I am sure GA could have sent the aircraft that they have left (not many widebodys these days) to more profitable destinations.
Rumour has it they are continuing to struggle with the payments on their other A330's (which service MEL/SYD) so who knows if/when the leasor will cease these back.
No reason to panic yet, just be wary that if this latest round of moves doesn't work for them, there will likely be major changes. It is typical of them to save face and not tell this story truthfully.
