HI there,

have just spent a few months in Bali and am interested in the whole 'balian' thing myself. I ended up seeing a woman healer who lives near Candidasa. It was very interesting but I think she was a bit of a fraud, just told me people in Australia were jealous of me and that was causing my problems and I needed to pay 500.000 ribu for a stone that would protect me! In the end I felt she was the person I needed protection from!

There is a guy who works from Bodyworks in Ubud (on the net) who is meant to be very good. He charges a lot though - 5000,000 per appointment and when I went to enquire they told me I'd have to wait three months, so he must be overseas or something.

My other suggestion is for your friend to go to the Pondok Pekak library in Ubud (it's next to the soccer field). Every year a group of US students come to do projects/studies in Bali. They do research and then write it up into a report that is kept at the Pondok Pecak. I read one very interesting report by a woman who had come to Bali and interviewed 5 or 6 prominant spiritual healers - about their life story, how they became healers and what they do when they are healing. Perhaps your friend could read that report and it might give her some good ideas of who she could see?

Hope that has been of some help.

:)Emma
