It may be easier to base yourself in Legian or Seminyak and spend a few nights on Nusa Lembongan. Easier to get around from those bases. Unless NL is special and you like somewhere a little quieter.
We're heading over in Dec/ Jan too and we've had great weather in the past at that time. We've also had really humid, sticky, damp weather. Who can predict with the global warming anyway? I've always welcomed the rain to cool things down and give you a reason to stay indoors and relax!
