We left Melbourne around 6pm.
We pre-ordered the meals and at least got our first choices.
On the way home, same as you, flight left Bali around midnight and arrived back in Melbourne 7.30am, which my body clock said 5.30am, Bali time, so no need to eat and I too didnt even see the breakfast trolley.
Did you fly on one of the new Airbus 330 ?
I love the way the head rest on the seat can be bent into shape to mould around your head, so comfy and keep your head from drooping over when you nod off. (Much better for the stranger who was sitting beside me on return flight!)
