Garuda is very safe, says Indonesian Civil Aviation report
23/04/2007
Garuda Indonesia has expressed concern about the conflicting information that has been conveyed to the Australian public and the travel industry after a recent release of a performance assessment report by the Indonesian Director General of Civil Aviation.

Garuda has said that many have focused on the point that said 'no Indonesian air carrier was found to meet minimum civil aviation standards.' The report goes on the say that some airlines including Garuda Indonesia had 'met minimum requirements of civil aviation safety standards.'

Garuda has said that many have been focusing on the first half of the statement, meaning that the Indonesian airline has been wrongly portrayed as to not have met minimum civil aviation standards.

'As an international airline, the flag carrier for Indonesia, the pre-eminent domestic carrier and a long-term member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Garuda Indonesia places the safety of its passengers as its highest priority,' said Regional General Manager Southwest Pacific Mr. Suranto Yitnopawiro.

'We are confident that our systems, training, procedures and management control in all aspects impacting on safety, are on part with international best practice.'

Garuda Indonesia has been offering Australian customers 38 years of unmarred service and hopes to expand on this in the future
