Is great, we are like Dave and have been 7 times and driven each time. This year we took the car to Lombok and drove all around Lombok as well. When you negotiate the price you ask for full insaurance and while the excess is expensive it is like Dave said depends on the damage. We had a new scrath this year and 30,000rp fixed the problem.
We pay around 150,000rp per day with the full insaurance cover. Not sure about your travel insaurance question.
