Decided to have a go this time and went with Bakas Levi Rafting. I was a little apprehensive and agreed to keep hubby happy. It was something he has always wanted to do.
Widi picked us up in a lovely clean air conditioned van and had a lovely drive up the new highway along the coast past Sanur and on to Klungkung village and the Melangit River (I think). It was about 30 minutes from Denpasar.
When we arrived we put our camera and anything we wanted to take into a waterproof bag to go on the canoe with us. The rest of our gear went into the car with Widi who said he would look after for us. We went down to the storage area and put on a life jacket and helmet and grabbed our oars. We had two guides with us - one who was training and it was his first ride. The other guy was very funny and entertaining.
Had to walk down lots of steps to get to the river where there were people blowing up the canoes. Hopped in just us 2 and the 2 guides and off we went. Lots of fun and laughter and splashing which the guide started and kept saying "sorry" so in the end we were splashing each other and others in other canoes continuously. Stopped half way for a drink and photo. The rapids were fun, not too big or scary as the water wasn't flowing too fast. Had a lot of fun trying to pass some Japanese girls who then hooked our canoe and got a free ride for a while.
Had to walk back up at the end which was heavy going and muddy and slippery. A bus was supposed to meet us but after waiting half an hour we all walked a small way then one of the guides borrowed a bike to go find our bus. Eventually it came - had been waiting at another exit spot for us. Didn't matter as we had fun while waiting and saw some of the countryside while walking.
Got back and had a shower (cold) then a buffet lunch which was very nice plus a bintang of course.
Got driven back to hotel by 2.30. Our driver stopped off at Sanur quickly for us to have a look also on the way home and he dropped into his office at the same time. All in all very enjoyable.
