especially if you go via another city i.e. Melbourne then to Sydney. Friends just came over from Singapore via Adelaide and Melbourne. The people getting off in Adelaide were fine but the transit passangers reboarding to Melbourne had all their alcohol confiscated and evidently there were some very irrate passangers and I don't blame them as they had already landed here, the security guards said it was because it was still an international flight, wonder if their bars are now well stocked!!!! The rule is you cannot leave or enter Australia with more than 100ml in a container and from what I gather it depends on how the security guard on duty that day interprets the law. We are going to pre order and pay in Sydney before we leave and pick it up on the way back in that way we won't loose it. Leaving Australia is fine as long as its in the duty free bag and the bag and seal are not broken.
