Hi,
It's true about the steep hill & it isn't particularly close to the main Ubud shops. I always stay at ubud Village Hotel. The same family own both.
Most people on the forum like either Ubud Village or Tegal Sari. A Balinese driver friend told be Ubud Village has the best rooms and Tegal Sari has the best view. Ubud Village is closest to the shops.
My next visit there is my 12th.
