I think they changed this after 9/11 and at the time it was pretty strict, it doesn't seem to be an issue now and 2 hours seems fine. I'm not sure if the new carry on liquid rules are making customs longer but keep this in mind as not everyone who travels reads forums or uses travel agents. I always check in as early as poss as I love airports - weirdo plane spotter I am!
