I take a couple of hundred bucks in cash, just in case, but use my card in the ATMs to get rupiah. I havn't had a problem yet,but have to admit I'll be trying to stick to the CBA ones outside the bank from now on. After having my card chewed by one here in Oz, I would hate to have the hassle of trying to sort that problem out over there.
Although the bank charges you about $4 for each transaction, you get nice clean notes, a good rate, and you don't have to worry about getting ripped by the moneychangers.
I never use my credit card over there for purchases though. Stick with cash.
