Abosolutely DO NOT take antibiotics unless you have a SERIOUS infection. In most cases, Bali belly is not a serious infection and antibiotics will do NOTHING to assist. All you do is make antibiotics less effective for people who need them.

When I lived up there I used to have to travel back and forth a fair bit to Australia, so my tummy got a battering with the different bacterias between Australia and Indonesia. What I did is this:

Take acidophilus, yakult is ok but not that strong. You can get something like Nature's Own Acidophilus Plus for a reasonable price in Australia. Take 15 mins before every meal.

Clean your teeth in bottled water.

Do not rinse your mouth in the shower, that can be a habit that you don't even realise you are doing.

Always wash your hands after going to the loo (well sometimes kids get slack with this stuff)

Always wash your hands when you come back to your hotel, and always wash your hands before eating.

Then follow the usual rules like freshly cooked food, watch out for salads washed in dirty water, icecream and yoghurts can be dodgy, etc.

Hope you have a safe and healthy trip

Freo
