I have bought many pieces in Bali and have often used the gold shop in Ubud.I have been very happy with quality and style.

About 17 years ago I bought a bangle in Denpasar in a gold shop, I got a receipt too.The bangle broke the first time I wore it at home, I tossed it in a drawer intending to do something 'next time I go to Bali' I always forget :)

This year in Malaysia I decided to have all my old bits of gold melted, like ear studs, chains and other broken stuff... including the bangle from Denpasar.

The man called my room and asked if there was any Indonesian gold in the lot I gave him as he had an explosion whilst melting. He told me that anyone who wants to cheat uses copper to fill in the gold bits but that this was just rubbish metals inside a bit of gold. He kept the metal and gave it to me.

I was shocked, I still have the receipt for the bangle, but I can't remember the name of the store, so just be careful.
