It would take you about 8 hours to arrive in Jogja. (5 hours if you drive from Surabaya)

That eight hours would be without stopping and looking around at the interesting things along the way.

However when driving, be extra careful, of "inter city" buses, that drive like maniacs and think they rule the roads. Be extra careful of potholes that are usually huge, and get you when you least expect it.

Be careful of train line crossings, that in the small towns of Java that have NO BOOM GATES....so always slow down and check first.

The petrol stations in Java now, are getting better and better, with improving their facilities such as clean toilets.. (however they still are the squat ones and veerrryyy slippery) and little shops to buy things, such as snacks or drinks.

You would be best on hiring something like a Kijang, that can handle the roads well.
