personal freedoms and basic human rights wouldnt be affected. Another reason for bothering would be that all people regardless of their politics, religion or respect for other people wouldnt be treated with suspicion and distrust. And yet another reason might be that leaving for from an airport for a holiday could be a happy time rather than a stressful experience being reminded of how unsafe air flight really is. But to inconspicuously employ technology and other less clumsy methods of detection wouldnt keep people scared and compliant would it? And,after all, the security agencies have to be seen to be protecting us or maybe we wouldnt feel safe from all those nasty terrorists.
