That way, no meters involved. They can go the long way if they want to, drive slow or fast, whatever.
Or
Decide where you want to do your shopping for the day, and negotiate a price for all those shops and return to your hotel. The driver will be waiting around, and you can drop off your shopping on the way. The bonus of this is, you get to know them, and they have a knack of remembering where you shopped or dropped off your photos, and can happily take you back there again!
P.S. Don't forget to buy them a coke and ask about their family - makes for much nicer relations.
