I've stayed at MBR three times and never heard anything about a courtesy bus - unless it's something new?
If you're traveling solo, you don't need much room so just get a taxi. It's quick and easy and you don't have to worry about waiting around for someone. You just leave when you're ready.
I had transfers arranged for my first 2 trips to Bali and have used taxis since then, and I always enjoy the trip more from a taxi for some reason. It just feels more like being in Bali much sooner.
