I am sad to hear you didn't have a good holiday in many ways.
In a way (not trying to minimalise your feelings) the holiday can also be what you make it. Bali is what it is and if you don't have expectations beyond what it is then I find it is hard to be disappointed. One example is my husband and I stayed at a hotel in Lovina one year to find that RIGHT next door to our thatched walled hut was the loudest local bar and karaoke that went till 4am every night- we had paid in advance and couldn't get our money back. We weren't that impressed but by the end we were laughing about it and I thoroughly enjoyed Lovina and will return.
We have have had the full spectrum of experiences in Bali but we still return cause we love it for what it is... and you have to be honest with yourself about what it is.
Maybe Bali no longer offers what you are looking for in a holiday destination and you should try somewhere else or maybe you should give it another go... I'm not sure but whatever decision you make it will the right one for you and I wish you a better holiday next time :-)
