I had a pair of black leather motorcycle trousers made in Bali in 2003 by Kings 11 near Bemo Corner. They cost me 1m Rp. The trousers were made from thick leather without plastic inserts, but with ribbing at the knees.
Last December, I went back to the same shop and found that the shop had changed hands and the new owners claimed to not understand the concept of thick leather for motorcycle clothing.
I then walked 15 metres and went down a laneway and found Puma. They said that the two brothers which had owned Kings 11 had sold the shop. One of the brothers had then set up Puma. They made me a black motorcycle jacket out of thick leather for 1m Rp.
They did understand the concept of plastic inserts and showed me a motorcycle racing suit they had made with plastic cups in the knees, shoulders and elbows. They did not offer to put plastic inserts into my jacket. Their address is Theater St No 11, Kuta.
If you have access to plastic inserts, then take them with you to Bali with a picture of what you want.
In another shop, I tried to have a pair of motorcycle gloves made for 300,000 Rp. The results were disappointing as they made a pair of tight fitting dress gloves for me out of thin leather after measuring my hands and assuring me that they would make me motorcycle gloves out of thick leather.
I also tried to buy a pair of readymade motorcycle gloves in Denpasar. The motorcycle shop could only show me a pair of flimsy fingerless motocross gloves.
