I used ATMs for all my transactions on my last two trips without any problems at all. The exchange rate was comparable to the street rate (often slightly better), and my bank (credit union) doesn't charge fees on withdrawals. I do take some emergency cash that I leave in the safe deposit box but never needed to touch it.
