Stayed at the Allston for a week recently-its no ritzville, more a business hotel but perfectly fine.Best thing is the location-Bugis Junction 10 min walk down the road(great clothes market), 20 min walk to Little India, 5min walk to Raffles. Also fabbo outdoor food market right next door, heavily frequented by locals, which stays open late. I know you've got a very short time but I loved the Night Safari( approx $25 Singapore dollars, last tour leaves around 10.30pm)-its quite an experience and if you love Indian food we had the best meal ever at Banana Leaf Apolo on Racecourse Rd where you eat exquisite curries off big banana leafs.
If youre going Singapore Airlines remember to keep your boarding pass for their Hop-on Hop-off Bus. You can see most of Singapore in a day( get off at Chinatown, have a look around, wait 10 mins for next bus to Botanic gardens etc)Really handy.Cheers
