To my mums horror I travel alot to Indonesia and Thailand....and soon to Veitnam for the first time. (Can't wait) My mum hates it...thinks I'm crazy to travel to those so called third world places. Like lots of Aussies and Kiwis who don't venture overseas, she reckons it's really dangerous etc etc.
Well grab a reality check people! Apart from those countries at war, Australia and NZ would have to be amongst the worst places in the world for street violence. I've often wandered home after having a late night out in Kuta or Bangkok, and I've never had a problem. Try doing that in Perth or Auckland. Try saying Gday to someone walking past you in the street in Northbridge or Quuen Street at 3am.
According to my mum, most people in Asia aren't as civilised as we are. Not civilised like we Aussies and Kiwis, who actually pay our kids to leave home at 15 so they can live on the streets and terrorise members of the public after the sun goes down.
Sorry mum, but I'll take the risk and spend my holiday money where people are friendly and smile when I walk past.
