2 years ago we went over with some friends. A girlfriend of ours had 2 bottles of spirits and only declared 1. We had all gone through customs and we noticed she wasn't there. I went back in to find her. She was getting in trouble by the custom guys. She was really scared because they were threatening a fine and gaol etc etc. They wanted her to go to the "office". I took over from her and went instead. It was a small room with a lounge and notepad and pen on a table. They said this was "very big problem for me". Anyway after a while one wrote $US50 on the notepad. I said in my best Bahasa Indo (I only know about 30 words) "no 10,000Rp". After some negotiation it cost me $AU10 and we both laughed and moved on.
Unless you are prepared to handle a situation like that I'd be a bit weiry of not declaring the excess alcohol.
