Further to the posters above, I would go further and suggest that you only deal with a shop that makes gear out of thick leather not thin nappa leather. When one shop could only show me samples of jackets made from nappa leather I walked out and found another shop which specialised in motorcycle gear.

So far I have had motorcycle gloves, trousers and a jacket made for me in Kuta. I normally order the gear on my first day in Kuta to allow time for adjustments and delays.

The gloves were a disappointment. They ended up as dress gloves at a cost of $A40. Next time I would take over a real pair of motorcycle gloves and insist on an exact copy. I tried to buy a pair of ready made gloves in Denpasar and all I could find were fingerless MotoX gloves.

The trousers cost me 900,000 Rp and are good quality and made from thick leather. The shop said that the leather I chose was too thick and inflexible ie shoe leather. I insisted and the trousers turned out fine. The trousers have ribbing at the knees not plastic cups.

My jacket was made by Puma from thick black leather with brass zips. There are no plastic cups for my elbows or shoulders. The jacket cost me 1m Rp. Puma's address is Kuta Theater St No. 11 (in a laneway near Bemo corner).

If you want plastic cups, I suggest that you try Dolphin Leather or bring the plastic cups from home.
